Does the city need a mayor when the post is mere symbolic with no real powers to the person who occupies the chair? It is just a tradition that is being followed from the British Raj & we need to scrap it, rather than keeping this tradition going which has no meaning apart from spending citizens money on the perks being given to the person occupying the chair like all expense paid bungalow, servants, cars etc.
Also, Assembly is more important than Corporation & the dual power centres only cause disputes & mismanagement as many important decisions are tossed like a tennis ball on each others domain of work. We need an electoral system where Assembly & Corporation is merged & we have a single decision-making body that would take care of the rights of the people without being biased. We need minimum power centres in a democracy for it to be effective to take the nation forward to the path of progress & development!
