The BMC, either after complaints or because of media exposures, resorts to demolitions of illegal structures. But these demolitions are a total farce. The BMC staff tear the roof, sledge-hammers walls and go away, leaving behind the apparent ruins. Within a few hours, the illegal structures bounce back. The BMC must simultaneously bring cranes to clear the area immediately of all debris, including furniture, fixtures, in trucks. The operation is similar to 'cleaning' drains, nullahs where these are claimed to be cleaned but the dirt and muck are left along the sides and pavements!
