Dhawan's Dashing Hundred

Monday, February 12, 2018

Shikhar Dhawan is in striking form in South Africa and showed it in style by scoring 109 of 105 balls in his 100th One day game at Johannesburg. Despite, intermittent lighting, thunder and rains, the Delhi batsman showed his dashing approach and added 158 runs with skipper Virat Kohli (75). He was the fulcrum round which Indian innings revolved round. Dhawan is the first Indian batsman to accomplish the task of scoring 100 in his 100th match and thereby created a new record. Former captain Sourav Ganguly came close to scoring a century in his 100th ODI match before falling for 97 in the 1996 World cup against South Africa. In the rain hit game, Dhawan was the linchpin and made runs at ease despite losing his opening partner Rohit Sharma at the end of the fourth over.  The 32-year-old, who made his ODI debut in 2010 against Australia, notched up his 13th century of almost run-a-ball to become the ninth batsman overall to etch his name in record books with a well timed hundred in his 100th match. Australian opener, David Warner did this in India. Only a break for lightning did break his concentration.  Otherwise, it was blemish less innings and gave India a fighting total to fight in the fourth match of the series. Kudos to Shikhar Dhawan of his scintillating century in a memorable game for him.
