Death of Afzal Guru still haunts?

Monday, February 12, 2018

Afzal Guru death anniversary day turned out to be a deadly day as the militants attack an army camp in Jammu and killed six people, all in a encounter. It was quite evident that the security was breached despite high alert around the Afzal Guru day. Apart from two soldiers, even civilians living in quarters were not spared in the most gruesome attack on an army camp. Even though all the three militants were neutralised in the operations, such incidents taking place in frequent intervals sends wrong signals and a fear for life among army and civilians in border areas with Pakistan. JeM militants had a planned attack on the army camp and the jawans were taken by surprise in the Sunjuwan Military Station. The storming raises the question of national safety in sensitive areas across the LoC. With heavy loss of army men in such series of attacks is causing a fear in the minds of our forces. The army fought tooth and nail to eliminate the militants on attack. The Army airlifted special commandos from the Northern Command Headquarters in Udhampur to the encounter site and a helicopter was used to identify the militants’ positions. Generators and searchlights were brought to the camp, apparently in preparation for a night assault. It is reliably learnt that all the militants were eliminated in a hour long operation. It is a bad blot on our security forces and the army men suffer the most in such fearless attacks by militants.
