Better team won

Friday, January 12, 2018

South Africans played to a plan and won the key moments, whereas Team India let South Africans off the hook after making them totter at 12 for 3. Match winning 114 runs stand between skipper du Plessis and de Villiers turned the tide and from then on it was team work all the way. The slip catching was excellent and the use of DRS was selected in a most meticulous way to the advantage of the winning side. Variety in pace attack counted much in a close encounter. V. Philander was economical and destructive in both the innings. With his bag of 9 wickets for 75 runs, the writing was on the wall for the Indian team. Ravichandran Ashwin was given 7.1 overs in the first innings for his two wickets and again given a single over at the fag end of the day as a formality. In the bargain, we failed to test SA against left handed batsmen and contain the scoring and get some valuable wickets to hasten the end to create a winning scenario. Ashwin was fighting a lone battle with the bat when the team was facing the inevitable.
