THOSE who have watched live the mixed doubles final in the US Open would agree with me on one count certainly that the Govt of India did the right decision in awarding the Khel Ratna to Sania Mirza who played the womens' doubles final in a manner showing her unblemished calibre.
Martina Hingis has appreciated in an unambiguous statement that Sania's forehand strokes are superb which have caused the winning of most of the games. Sania got three Slams in 2015 all with Martina, which is certainly an unprecedented feat for any female tennis player in India so far.
Martina is certainly lucky with her Indian partners as she won the mixed doubles title back to back with another veteran male Indian tennis legend Leander Paes in this tournament post Wimbledon recently. One former Indian Davis cupper Jaydeep Mukerjea rightly commented that the Swiss factor (Martina Hingis) worked for both our two Indian tennis stars Leander Paes and Sania Mirza.

LEANDER PAES has always worn his heart on his sleeve and when the 42-year-old steps on to the tennis court he plays like a 24-year-old, brimming with enthusiasm. By winning the US open mixed doubles partnering Martina Hingis, Leander Paes created history of capturing the most number of mixed doubles titles in the open era. The youthful and energetic Paes has 9 mixed doubles titles and is only behind the legendary Navratilova. Hats off also to Sania for claiming the womens double title. Finally, thanking Martina Hingis with whom Indians seems to be playing their best and winning Grand Slam titles
