Nurcon 2018 puts the spotlight on nursing

A nursing conclave, NurCon 201, was held in Mumbai on Monday. The Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital initiative saw a huge participation of nurses from various hospitals and nursing colleges across the state.

 The day-long event was inaugurated at the hands of Prof. Shashikala Wanjari – Vice-Chancellor and Honorary Colonel, SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai and  Swapna Joshi – Professor, College of Nursing, Tata Memorial Hospital. Also present on the occasion were Dr Niranjan Hiranandani – Co-founder and MD, Hiranandani Group, Dr Sujit Chatterjee – CEO,  Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital, Valsa Thomas – Chairperson, NurCon 2018 and Saly Suseel – Organising Secretary, NurCon 2018.

“Nursing has always been very close to my heart,” said Dr Hiranandani. “All over the world, the nursing profession and its role are evolving rapidly.” While referring to the need to be technologically updated at all times, he added: “However, I believe no technology can replace the empathy that patients need the most while under treatment in the hospital and it’s here the nurses play a vital role. I see the future of the nursing profession as being very bright”.

 Among other topics, the conclave focused on leadership, technology and digitisation, the emerging and changing roles of nurses, legal aspects, safety of patients, collaborative nursing and challenges and opportunities in the nursing profession.

 In the competition held, two short-listed nursing colleges made their presentation on topic – Perspectives on the Future of Nursing. The winners won Rs 25,000.

 The conclave concluded with a panel discussion on the future of nursing as a profession. It was moderated by Dr Sujit Chatterjee and the participants included

Dr Rita Lakhani – Principal, Fortis Institute of Nursing, Dr Meera Acharekar – Professor & Nursing Superintendent, Tata Memorial Centre, Dr Parag Rindani – CEO, Wockhardt Hospital and Dr Lalitha – Professor & Principal, Dayananda Sagar University.
