Water is the most under-valued nutrient that a human body needs in every season, but there are other foods that can hydrate you and also contribute to weight loss, says Sunny Arora

Everyone needs a cooling effect in this hot and humid season. What better way to consume foods that not only keep you hydrated but also help you in weight loss?

Coconut water
Coconut water is known to maintain the electrolyte levels to help your body rehydrate and also help maintain Ph balance. Since coconut water is very alkaline in nature, consuming it on an empty stomach will boost the metabolism and help you to lose weight.

Iced Green Tea

Lemon is a great fat loss agent and is also a rich source of Vitamin C, which is an antioxidant, promoting strong immune levels.

P.S Nimbu paani can be consumed as a mini meal during the day.

Sugarcane Juice
It is a widely underestimated drink known to be rich in calcium, iron and magnesium. Sugarcane juice helps in fighting infections as it is rich in vitamins and protein. Sugarcane juice is yet another great option to keep your body hydrated.

Watermelon

Salads are extremely high in fibre, which naturally helps in fat loss. Also, salads provide a cooling effect to the body which makes them a great meal option in the summers.  Adding vegetables like cucumber, iceberg lettuce and bell peppers add a lot of density to the salad, making it a low- calorie, high density meal which gives you lesser calories but satiates your appetite.

Kokam Sharbat
Kokam has natural properties of providing a cooling effect to the body. It is also known to improve digestion and appetite. The cooling properties of Kokam Sharbat help to fight dehydration and sun strokes. Kokam is Garcinia Indica, which is a cousin plant of Garcinia Cambogia, a major contributor towards fat loss naturally.

Chhaas (Buttermilk)
Homemade buttermilk is a natural probiotic drink which helps keeps the intestine cool and bad-bacteria free; this helps in better digestion of food and better absorption of nutrients from food. It also contains Jeera, which promotes increased metabolism, hence resulting in fat loss.

Seasonal Fruits and vegetables
It is best to always consume fruits and vegetables that are in season. Nature has curated fruits and vegetables in certain seasons according our body’s needs in those seasons. The more you consume seasonal foods, the better it works in favor of your body. Off-season foods are usually Genetically Modified Foods which are harmful for our system.

Avoid Caffeine and Spices
Caffeine is a natural diuretic (known to drain out water from the body). Consuming caffeine in summer leads to excessive dehydration resulting in water retention in the body, as the body saves whatever little bit water intake it gets. This scenario can lead to a lot of bloating and therefore weight gain. It is best to avoid caffeine in this season. Spices also tend to have a thermogenic effect on our bodies (producing heat), although it is great for quicker fat loss, it also leads to various skin problems like break-outs, boils and oily skin. Hence, it’s best to keep highly spicy foods at bay.

Most Important of All – Water
Water is the most under-valued nutrient that a human body needs in every season, but especially during summer because water has innumerable benefits. Water is not only known to maintain basic hydration levels but is also known to maintain our body’s core temperature stable, making it easier for us to lose weight this season. The more the dehydration, the further the chances of water retention resulting in weight gain. We can judge the hydration levels in our body by the color of our urine. If it’s yellow or pale orange, it indicates that you’re already three per cent dehydrated. We should keep ourselves hydrated before we end up feeling thirsty. Water is the best drink to aid in quicker weight loss.
