10 Ways To: Make Tomorrow Easier, Today

Have the Monday blues become a constant fixture in your weekly routine? You should know that you can fight them. Pearl Mathias tells you about 10 easy things you can do today for a better tomorrow

1. Catch up with loved ones

Plan lunch dates, movie outings or at-home gatherings on the weekend. Video-call a friend who lives in different city or email someone you haven’t caught up with in a while. Save meeting up for the weekend so that you’re not pressed for commitments during the week.

2. Find motivation every day

We all need this, in some form or other. If it’s music that sings to your soul, set your playlist to uplifting beats and tune in to it in the morning. Listening to an inspiring podcast as you sit at the breakfast table. Even reading a short motivational story can give you the burst of energy that a Monday morning demands.

3. Clear out the clutter
The last thing you want to see first thing in the morning is a bag brimming with old bills and leaflets, candy wrappers and old gum. It’ll only take a couple of minutes to rummage through the clutter and keep your handbag clean and ready for you to start your week.

4. Write your Monday to-do list

Although no one likes to think about work on the weekend, one thing that can really help you get started on a Monday is to have a checklist in place. Doing this at the start of the work day can get slightly taxing, given that the sight of the many tasks can bring you down. Instead, take a few minutes the day before and make a priority list so that you have a clear vision of how your day will play out.

5. Treat yourself
Although we’re pressed for time on weekdays, the weekend is perfect for an indulgent hour or two. Gather your sugar scrubs and bath salt; it’s time to soak in the goodness of a luxurious bath. If you’re too lazy to do it yourself, schedule a spa or salon appointment and give yourself some much-needed pampering.

6. Prepare meals in advance

You will thank yourself come Monday morning, when all you need to do is pull out a tray of delicious pre-cooked food that you’ll only spend a few minutes heating. This gives you more time to get your things in order or prepare for the day. You can squeeze in some meditation or a morning walk with the extra minutes.

7. Do nothing

This goes without saying. Set aside some mandatory downtime. Not even to do things that you love — there’ll be a separate hour for that. Just spend some time doing nothing today and your mind and body will appreciate it tomorrow.

8. Get outdoors

For most of us, our work requires us to sit glued to a desk for the better part of the day. So, even if you don’t find time to take a walk outside during your lunch hour, doing this on the weekend will ensure that your body gets a healthy dose of vitamin D along with some fresh air and revitalising sight of greenery.

9. Do what you love

Do whatever makes your soul happy. Whether it is reading a book, trying out a new dish, stepping out for shopping or pruning the plants in your garden, set aside some time for it. So, whether or not your work leaves you satisfied, you’ll be happy that you did something you loved over the weekend. This will also put you in a good mood and ready to take on the week.

10. Set your closet in order

No matter how carefully we stack our clothes, give it two weeks and we find ourselves staring at the same towering mess as before. The weekend is the perfect time to sort it out and put things in place, even if it’s for just a while. You can also set aside clothes for each day of the week, which reduces the hassle of figuring out what to wear every morning.
