Going global

Wednesday, October 11, 2017

Bungalow 8 was the happy venue for Maithili Ahluwalia to host a stimulating dialogue between Gautam Vazirani and Chinar Farooqui on ‘Indian designers building global brands.’ Chinar’s brand Injiri is retailed across 300 stores overseas and at Bungalow 8 here. Known for having his finger on the fashion pulse, Gautam Vazirani explored the idea of how brands that are truly Indian in their DNA are not only in vogue but also serve as a greater good towards the industry. Chinar Farooqui is a classic case study of someone who works with sustainability starting at the ideological level. She has never had a business plan nor does she believe in creating a sales target before showcasing her collections at international trade shows. The success of Injiri is not so much about a brand that has clicked with the global cognoscenti, but an evolved market that is celebrating the quiet music of her fashion.
