Cutting edge

Cool cocktails with Paul John whisky and tasty hors d’oeuvres set the tone for the launch of the book ‘CUT: The Life and Death of a Theatre Activist’ by Sreemoyee Piu Kundu at Olive Bar & Kitchen. The talk was that this was not a book but a poignant play that begins with theatre great Amitabh Kulashestra dying in a crowded train compartment. The body lies unclaimed in the morgue with his ex-wife and fans all speaking different truths. The protagonist is never seen in person, reading through ‘CUT’ you will see that Amitabh is resurrected only through voices by people he knew. Published by Bloomsbury, the ‘CUT’ book launch was ably anchored by Vinta Nanda who brought alive the content of the book and the manifestation of the plot, intriguing and fascinating. Panelists included Mahabanoo Mody-Kotwal, Mona Ambegaonkar and Joy Sengupta who all read excerpts of the play/book.
