Choral flavour

Tuesday, November 28, 2017

All eyes and all ears will be on the Paranjoti Academy Chorus that has been in existence for more than half a century, having performed globally and under the baton of Coomi Wadia for the last 50 years, as they perform at Tata Theatre, NCPA, this evening. It would be a revered concert featuring Mozart’s Requiem and Coronation Mass along with the SOI Chamber Orchestra and soloists Valentina Marghinotti (soprano), Margherita Tani (mezzo-soprano), Sorab Wadia (tenor) and Eugenio Di Lieto (bass). Going back memory lane, Balos was founded by Dr. Victor Paranjoti in 1956 and from this group the Paranjoti Chorus was formed in 1960. The choir has participated in concert tours and competitions all across the globe. And the good news is that besides having in its repertoire compositions by Paranjoti, the chorus encourages other Indian composers to write choral music and to make arrangements of Indian folk songs.
