A Bad Moms Christmas
Director: Jon Lucas, Scott Moore
Cast: Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn, Susan Sarandon and others
Rating: * 1/2

Moms are not supposed to enjoy, they are supposed to give joy, says a mom from hell to her daughter, who just wants to celebrate Christmas without all the needless slog.

A Bad Moms Christmas, sequel to the slightly less idiotic Bad Moms, is set during the holiday season, when women traditionally go nuts with shopping, packing, cooking and getting families together for the celebrations. Maybe it was released a few weeks before Christmas, when the other Yuletide offerings will hit the screens, so that the exhaustion will be done by then. And this film, in spite of actors like Susan Sarandon, Mila Kunis and Kathryn Hahn is more tiring than funny.

Writer-directors Jon Lucas and Scott Moore got together Amy (Kunis), Kiki (Kristen Bell) and Carla (Hahn), who had given mothering a break in the last film and decided to freak out. Amy pursued and bagged divorced dad, Jesse (Jay Hernandez), and now lives with him.

In this film, the frazzled-with-Christmas friends meet at the mall and decide to “take back Christmas.” But their lives are complicated by the arrivals of their own mothers. Amy’s ‘momster’ Ruth (Christine Baranski), who insists on mistaking Jesse for the help; Kiki’s clingy mother, Sandy (Cheryl Hines), who gets her hair cut like her daughter’s and wants to be her BFF, and Carla’s hippie mom Isis (as in the terrorist outfit, she explains) played with some verve by Sarandon.

Of course, mayhem ensues, most of it either unfunny or vulgar. Like the 'twerking' with Santa and male stripper bits. Even a kid uses the ‘F’ word. But what’s really offensive is how the film pushes women into typical mom roles of drudgery and single parenting, while the men have it easy, and then it is disrespectful of motherhood.
