Lahanpan Dega Deva is one of the most popular plays in Marathi written by veteran actor-director Bal Kolhatkar which was first staged in 1969. Now actor Sunil Barve presents this updated version of the play with an all new cast under his ‘Herbarium’ initiative having already staged his first Suryachi Pille successfully.
Lahanpan Dega Deva is a sort of a satirical comedy on middle class mores which makes a comment on middle class prejudices and the laughable upheavals in a typical family. Anant Utpat (Sharad Ponkshe) who has run away from his home in his childhood visits his sister (Shilpa Tulaskar) after many years, much to the happiness of his sister who welcomes him and much to the chagrin of his brother-in-law Vishwanathrao (MangeshKadam) who is heavily under debt after a failed business and is chased by his creditors and his father-in-law as well (Jayant Savarkar) who has lent him money for the business.
And Anant becomes an unwanted guest in the family when he overstays and starts borrowing money from the neighbors and makes numerous shopping sprees on his brother-in-law’s credit who almost is on the verge of killing his sister’s brother.
