My daughter is applying to University of California for undergraduate studies. What is the approximate cost of education?
—Sunanda Shikhar

As an Indian student, you apply as a Non-Resident. UC undergraduates at all campuses pay the same $17,000 in system wide tuition and fees. Non resident undergraduates pay an additional $28,000 in non resident supplemental tuition. You need to consider other costs like: Books and Supplies, Health Insurance Allowance, Room and Boarding and Transportation. The cost per year for living on campus is approximately $65,000 per year. Your yearly costs will vary depending on your personal expenses and the campus you attend. Also, your total costs will vary depending on your personal expenses and the campus you attend.

I am interested in designing and have a passion for cars and automobiles. Can you suggest any suitable courses in the US at an undergraduate level?
—Aryamann Desai

The US has several well-known design institutes. They offer a wide variety of programs like: Graphic Design, Product Design, Software Design, Web Design, Fashion Design, Interior Design, Accessory Design, Interface Design, Automotive Design and Industrial Design to name a few.  Considering your passion for cars you may also consider: Transportation Design, Automotive Design and Industrial Design. Some colleges may specifically offer Transportation or Automotive Design programs, while most colleges will offer courses in it under the department of Industrial Design.  The popular design schools in the US are: RISD-Rhode Island School of Design, Pratts, SCAD-Savannah College of Art and Design, Academy of Art University and Art Centre College of Design.

I have completed 6 months in the BA Economics Program from Ashoka University. I am looking to apply for Undergraduate studies to the US. Should I apply as a freshman or as a transfer student?
—Neelpreet Juneja

If you have a high school diploma or GED and you have less than one year of transferable post-secondary-school college credit, then you should apply as a freshman candidate. If you have at least one year and no more than two years of transferable post-secondary-school college credit, then you should apply as a transfer student.
