Wednesday, October 04, 2017

Alisha Mashruwala is a Partner at OnCourse and a Harvard graduate, and is also a Psychology major with a minor in Economics

I am currently studying in Grade 12. My main interest is studying Engineering in UK. What qualifications are needed to apply for the Engineering program?
—Adit Parashar

International applicants for the Engineering program in UK are required to present Senior Level courses in: Mathematics (including Calculus), Physics and Chemistry. Candidates studying in the Indian education system are required to provide the following certifications in the subjects of Math, Chemistry and Physics at the grade 12 level: All India Senior School Certificate awarded by CBSE or Indian School Certificate (awarded by CISCE) or Year 12 State Board Exams with excellent results. Prerequisite courses should be presented in the 12th year. Proof of English proficiency is also be required: IELTS (Academic). Please remember that UK colleges offer “Conditional Admission” based on the student’s predicted grades. If your final result doesn’t meet those conditions, your admission will be cancelled.

My daughter had given her Board exams in 2016. Though she attended college in 2016 and also 2017, she was unable to do well due to health issues. Is it possible for her to apply to the US as a Freshman application?
—Shamita  Jhamal

It is possible for your daughter to consider a Freshman Gap Year Application. The Freshman Gap Year Application is similar to the Freshman Application to the US. Along with the usual requirements like: Transcripts, Recommendation Letters and Personal Essay, she will have to write an extra essay which talks about the reason of the “Gap” in her education. At this stage, please ensure that you express her health issues along with other relevant issues/problems that may have caused the delay in her application. Also, please don’t submit any college transcripts as a part of the application.

Aries (Mar 21 - Apr 20)You will make headway in your work and career through sheer hard work and also through an important contact that you recently made. However, don’t expect immediate results from your efforts. A minor misunderstanding at work should not be allowed to spoil your day. Important developments within the family will make you happy.
