I have completed my B.SC in Mathematics. I am looking to pursue a MS in either Actuarial Mathematics or Quantitative Finance & Risk Management in the US. I am confused between the scopes of both the degrees. Can you please explain the difference between the Actuarial MS degree and the Quantitative Finance and Risk Management MS degree?
—Ravi Shelat

The Actuarial Mathematics MS and the Quantitative Finance and Risk Management MS are similar in the sense that students will learn mathematical and statistical tools for quantifying financial risk. However, the nature of the uncertainty and the mathematical tools for its analysis differ substantially. In the Actuarial program, students focus on financial risks related to insurable events such as death, retirement, illness, disability, fire, etc., and learn the mathematical and statistical tools for quantifying these risks. In the Quantitative Finance and Risk Management program, students focus on financial risks related to the uncertainty in stock prices. The Quant program differs from existing programs by focusing on specific mathematical and data-intensive skills required for careers in the financial industry.

I am currently studying for my A-level exams. I am interested in studying ‘Geography’ in Oxford University. What are their Entry Requirements for the Geography course?
—Vipul Shrivastava

The main entry requirements for the Geography course at Oxford University of A-level students is: A-levels: A*AA. It is highly recommended for candidates to have Geography to A-level, Advanced Higher or Higher Level in the IB or another equivalent. All candidates must also take the Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA) as part of their application.  Oxford University also has a suggested reading for applicants to the geography program—students are encouraged to read National Geographic magazine or any other Geography materials which you find interesting. Please note that the admission to Oxford University is a Conditional offer based on your predicted score. If you fail to meet the conditions in the offer your application will be cancelled.
