Suchitra Surve Director, Growth Centre, is a Post Graduate in Business Administration and has specialised in HR, and also holds a Post Graduation Diploma in Career Counselling

My daughter is in 12th standard studying in the field of commerce. Can you please advice her about which course can get her a job easily and good salary in management or commerce related fields only. Which is the better option between BMS and BAF?
     —Siddharth Rege

There are many options that are available to her after class, 12, but none can guarantee an easy transition into employment. The salary offered will be at par with the industry and as per the candidate’s potential. Do remember, as a fresher, an organisation looks at the potential, conceptual clarity of the candidate. While there are options like BMA, BAF, BBI, BFM along with Bcom, all offer good prospects depending on the academic performance. BMS will introduce the fundamentals of management and BAF is more focussed on the basics of accounting and finance. So depending on her final career goal, she can choose an option.

I am in TYBSC (Statistics). Now, I want to know what I should do in order to get a job in statistics field. Please provide me some course or studies.     —Hamza
You can opt for Masters Course in the same or related field like Math, Stats, Actuarial Science or opt for a non-statistics field like management or law or social work or journalism as per your long term plans.

I want to become an Investment Banker. After taking which course can I become investment banker. I am in TYBA this year and have taken economics. Is it possible to take up this career with economics?
—Soudamini Iyer

To become an Investment Banker you can opt for courses like MBA (Finance) or CA or any other Finance related professional degree or a Master’s course. There are no direct recognized courses on Investment Banking. However, there are some private institutions as well as Deemed Universities that offer autonomous courses. Do check the credentials of the same from the industry as well as the student community. You need to have the requisite financial educational qualification as well as work experience of at least 6- 8 years in the field. To become an investment banker, you should have sound knowledge of finance and economics.
