Smart tips for last month preparation of AIIMS Entrance Examination

Wednesday, May 09, 2018

Competing for the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) MBBS entrance exam and getting a good rank is a hard nut to crack. And why not? After all, it is an important national level entrance test conducted by AIIMS, New Delhi, for admission to the MBBS program offered by seven AIIMS institutions of the country.

As a matter of fact, this year’s notification has introduced some very crucial changes pertaining to the exam schedule and the number of seats and campuses available.

Interestingly from this year onwards, two new AIIMS campuses offering 50 seats each has also been opened for admissions. As of now, including the seats in the two new campuses, there are around 807 MBBS seats available for admissions across the 9 AIIMS institutions. The exam schedule has also undergone some changes. Instead of the exam being conducted in two shifts on a single day, it will be held in four shifts spread across two days, that is, on May 26 and 27.

The key is to stay calm and do your best and be assured that you have done as much as you could. All you need to do now on the D-day is to approach the paper with a cool-headed mind and solve it. With only a month remaining for the examination, here are some smart last-minute preparation tips that might prove immensely beneficial.

Work on and improve your basics
The candidate must revise his study material and the NCERT textbooks multiple times in the last month. Practice diagrams and flowchart and make mind maps for better memorization and to further accelerate your preparation.

Even your mind needs to take a break
AIIMS preparation demands a realistic timetable, especially if it’s only a month at hand. It needs to be followed rigorously come what may. Studying with intervals or small breaks will ultimately help overcome your stress levels. Remember that smart study is more important than just the number of hours spent.

Divide your time intelligently and avoid new notes
Divide the last one month of preparation equally among three key areas: analysing the weak areas, solving questions based on the exam pattern and practicing mock tests. The most important chapters should be dealt with first and should be revised a number of times. The lesser important ones can be revised and practiced later. The market is full of NEET study material but don’t get lured in the last month to start with some new notes and focus on revision and practice. It may increase your stress level and may make it difficult to retain the newly-added information.

Decide subject-wise important topics
It is very important to pick the subject-wise important topics of AIIMS MBBS 2018. Here are some of the most important topics which definitely need to be focused on in the last month.
1.    Physics: Kinematics, Laws of Motion, Rotational Mechanics& Modern Physics
2.     Chemistry: Organic Chemistry is the most important one followed by Aldehydes, Equilibrium, Chemical Kinetics, Ketone & Carboxylic Acid
3.    Biology: Genetics, Systematics, Cells, Human Health & Diseases

Give mind maps a go
Some topics like Periodic Table and General Organic Chemistry can be best memorised with the aid of mind maps.

They are important to the core. By looking several times at mind maps for both the topics mentioned above, you can memorise it via your visual memory, making it easier to recall at the time of the exam.

It is advisable to practice it before your mock tests so that you can ascertain how much you are able to recall and what part needs to be further worked on.
