Republic Day CSR India has come a long way since it first became a republic in 1950. Over the years, our country has grown, progressed and most of all, is now at par with most of the developed countries of the world. R.D National College’s annual mass media festival, Cutting Chai, made its presence felt on Republic Day this year. The students were spotted on the streets around Shivaji Park in large numbers. Their agenda for the day revolved around spreading awareness about the various social issues that haunt the Indian Society today and become a barrier in our country’s progress.

Mascots, each depicting a social evil, along with messengers who spread awareness about the same, had an interesting one on one conversational session with many of the spectators of the grand parade. “As the budding media fraternity, we fail to understand just why are these issues still treated as taboos in our society. Our sole purpose is to speak out these taboos aloud and validate their existence for the betterment of our society.” ,said Aliya Naushad Ali, the organizer of this public gathering.

A few issues that were brought to light were Rape, Acid Attacks, Mental Health, Isolation of the LGBTQ community, Ragging, Freedom of Expression and Child Abuse. “It isn’t the law which is faulty. The change needs to come from within ourselves. It all depends upon how much are we willing to change as people.”, said an inspector from the Mumbai Police Force, when asked about her views on such social evils. All of these interactive sessions were supplemented with hard-hitting posters, which caught the eye of many onlookers. The interviewees were seen sipping a steaming hot cup of tea, brought  by Tea Pea, while expressing their opinions. “There is no better way to indulge in conversations than over tea, and that is exactly what we have done. Chai PeCharcha, in its true, pure, unadulterated form.” ,said a Second Year student who did not wish to be named. "Tea has always been the source of bonding over conversations, and we strive on continuing to do so for many years to come."
