To strengthen the primary education at an early age, Primary Olympiad runs a National Level Certification and Assessment Program for students of Grade 1 to 5.

The Primary Olympiad was first launched in June 2010 in the name of ‘English Olympiad’ and was confined only to Mumbai. “With over nine years of excellence in its unique domain, Primary Olympiad is the oldest certificate programs that it helps both students and parents to understand the improvement areas and their National level academic performance,” said Ankit Kapoor National Product Coordinator - Primary Olympiad, Pratham Education.

Around 108 schools and 12,000 students across the country participated in the competition. Out of these, 4800 students qualified for National Round and 568 students from Mumbai Region. The program reached out to 15 cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Pune, Nashik, Chennai, Fazilka, Balki, Valsad, Vapi, Srinagar, Kolkata, Bangalore, Kanpur and Ahemdabad.

Like the past nine years, in 2018-2019 when Municipal Corporation Greater Mumbai-Education Department associated with Primary Olympiad, they were aware they are now in big league. The Olympiad consists of Language, Mathematics and Science sections.

According to Rachana Shinde (MCGM), the initiative was taken by Mahesh Palkar (EducationOfficer) keeping in mind that the education quality needs to be enhanced at grass root level and from early stage. “Primary Olympiad gave us the medium to make our students learn and develop the habit of competition which awaits them in near future. We hope that more institutions like us should actively be involved for such avenues where children can participate, gain knowledge and excel in the same,” she said.

As Primary Olympiad inches towards its National Round, only 568 students all across were able to qualify in all three 3 subjects. Prakash Charate (Dy Education Officer) said, “Out of the 568 students, it makes us proud to announce that 150 students are from MCGM. Hope that our initiative brings the change in the primary level education soon.”
