Digital media expert Hitesh Motwani talks to Monarose Sheila Pereira about this latest technology

Tell us about your field?
I am currently the CEO of Skillopedia, a training and consulting company specializing in Digital Media Marketing. I specialise in consulting and training large to medium scale organization from CEOs to marketing heads. I help organizations to achieve their business goals by helping them to realign their sales and marketing strategy. I have over a decade of experience in Digital and Social media marketing, public relations, corporate communications and branding. Prior to this I was working with Ogilvy and Mather where I led some of their flagship clients such as Nakheel, Twitter, Future Generali Life Insurance,  Bandhan Bank, EXIM Bank, CFA and many more. I have also been a Head of PR and Marketing for Crompton Graves and led the account for Tata Group when he was with Redifussion.

Tell us about your training programmes.
I train large to medium scale organization from CEOs to marketing heads. I enjoy coaching and mentoring. I am a guest lecturer with Indian Institute of Management – Bangalore (IIM Bangalore ranks among top 50 universities in the world), SP Jain Institute of Global Management, NMIMS, Indo American Society of India, Princeton Academy and many more. I have trained over 10,000+ participants till date and consulted several start-ups. I am a firm believer in the strength of the online voice, and I have also built-out and conducted workshops for firms to help them handle B2B marketing, Creative thinking, validating business idea, Digitization and media training.

I am also a guest speaker at various summit, he has spoken at the HR summit, Digital engage summit and RPG Digital Summit. Clients that I have worked with include Nakheel, Twitter, The Tata Group, UPS, Endemol Shine India, Bandhan Bank, Swiss Re, Crompton Graves, EXIM Bank, DB Realty and many more

What do you like about digital marketing?
Digital Marketing today has become a buzzword and this is just the tip of the iceberg, this industry is yet to witness unprecedented changes and it keeps changing every day. This is exactly what excites me about the Digital marketing world. I have been working in the industry for close to a decade now. My areas of expertise are Social Media Marketing, Brand messaging, Creative Thinking, Personality development, crisis communication, Media training; Brand building.

How did you start your journey in digital marketing?
When I started my career, I was working with a bank where I used to sell mutual funds, post which I joined a company called DSP BlackRock Mutual Funds where I handled customer service for close to 2 years and later moved into the compliance team assisting the team to make the offer document and interacting with vqarious government authorities for various approvals. I was really bored of what I did that is when I decided to make a switch in the Communication industry and I joined a PR firm called Genesis Burson Marsteller where I used to handle financial communications for Kotak Group. Post which I started understanding importance of communications and I was very keen on Digital communication to be precise. I joined an ad agency wherein I managed a very large groups Digital Media Marketing, this gave me a great exposure and I was among the early entrants in the Digital Marketing space. After which I headed to Crompton Greaves where I was managing Digital Marketing and understood how we use Digital for B2B marketing as well. On side-lines I was also keen on training people on Digital Marketing and I started training at multiple institutions. While I was training budding entrepreneurs, students, working professionals I also learned a lot because I was now teaching and implementing strategies taught to young entrepreneurs. Currently I am a visiting faculty among the top institutions in the country such as IIM Bangalore, NMIMS, SP Jain Global Management, KJ Somaiya and many more.

Have you won any awards?
I am accredited as one of the best media professionals in India for being top 30 under age 30 by Social Samosa. I was awarded as one of the best Social media professional in the country by Social Samosa for their 30 under 30 award category. In my last stint I was working with Ogilvy where I had a privilege to work with Twitter, as they were one of the clients Ogilvy was handling and I managed communications and marketing for them in India. Currently I have my own start-up called Skillopedia which is into skill development and training individuals, companies, institutions on Digital media marketing. Today we are helping many budding entrepreneurs, institution, students and start-ups to go online and help them to scale their business.

What is the future of digital marketing?
According to me every business has to go digital in next few years, in famous words by Erik Qualman we done have an option whether we do Digital or not, the question is how well we do it.

Today anyone can do digital marketing no matter how much budget they have, be it INR 500 or INR 5,00,000 Digital marketing gives everyone an equal opportunity to showcase their business in front of right consumers, it doesn’t discriminate like traditional advertising mediums.
