First college to implement 'Rooftop Solar Power Project'

Wednesday, July 19, 2017

NES Ratnam College, Bhandup inaugurated phase I of its ‘Rooftop Solar Power Project’ which is an eco-friendly measure taken up by the college to use renewable energy. It not only saves electricity but is also a significant step towards adopting sustainable solutions.

Set up at a cost of Rs. 7.10 lakh, the 10 kilowatt power (kWp) solar power system with 34 panels (300Wp each) will produce 14,600 units (kWh) of electricity in a year and 40 units (kWh) daily. Reportedly, this will help the college save upto 20-25 per cent of energy costs. The first phase of the solar power project will be powering the classrooms, laboratories, AV section etc.

Dr. R Varadarajan, Founder President, NES SVB Group said, “NES is the first one to inaugurate the solar project at Ratnam College in central suburbs as per the government directive. This is a lifelong initiative, and the entire complex will be benefited eventually. We are keen to deploy the same at our Dombivali Complex in our private capacity owing to frequent power cut-offs in the region”.

MP Dr. Kirit Somaiya, who had come to inaugurate the phase I of the project says, “India has now realized the use of sun god and I urge masses to make the best use of this energy. We have targeted 25 colleges through MP fund from North East of Mumbai. This year we selected 10 colleges and out of which 6 of them qualified and Ratnam College is the first one to implement this benchmark project.”
