Exam 'Fever' on! Calm down, students!

February and March are times when every student is gearing up for their board and the entrance examinations. The stress taken by the students is understood but the stress 'given' by the parents, relatives and the entire universe - is just too much! It is scientifically proven that these stressful days give birth to many a physical and mental health problems among the children. Physical problems are okay as they are visible and can be cured. However, mental problems, the real troublemakers, would remain within the child - forever!

It is important for the parents to try-not-to pressure their kids as they are already dead stressed. All they want is some understanding, freedom and chocolates to calm them down. Dear students, it is okay if you want to take some time for yourself to relax. Overdoing it will only lead to forgetting everything you have already studied. From making time tables to marking important answers, students are supposed to do each and everything by their will. For parents and teachers, let the student breathe - you be patient!

Some useful tips from ADC team for the  D-Day!

  • Don't cram! That is studying in the night before an exams will cause huge level of stress. So start studying for your exams a day before.
  • Shoo away stress giving people. But how to recognise them? If they tell you to study every time they see your face, shoo them!
  • Eat well. Eat your fruits. Eat your veggies. Drink warm milk because it will calm you. Also, avoid junk because junk will junk your head from focusing.
  • Avoid hangovers. Ahem! Well, you know the reason.
  • Zzzzz... (by this we mean to get enough sleep!)
  • Make a schedule or a regular study plan and STICK TO IT.
  • Try to stay away from phones, laptop, social media while you are studying. And while studying make sure it is a quite place, away from all the distractions.
  • Don't continuously study, make sure you take breaks in between. Either take a nap or go for a walk.
  • Instead of some memory booster pills try some concentration exercises such as meditation or yoga which will lead to recollect your thoughts.

These were some raw tips which every student can apply. Now, here is some of the tips from Dr. Samir Parikh, Director, Department of Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences, Fortis Heathcare, which will help students and parents to deal with anxiety, stress and let our students to prepare and score well in their examinations.

  • Make sure you sleep for 7-9 hours before your exams.
  • On the day of the exam, be confident, don’t discuss the subject or the paper with your friends before the exam starts. Do not try to read or memorize anything at the last moment.
  • Once you receive the paper, look at the first question and answer it if you know it. If you don’t, move forward. Divide your time based on the marks for each question.
  • It is not a race you are participating in. Don’t look at the number of sheets others use. Do not look at the clock too often. You don’t need to be the first one to finish.
  • Once the exam is over, it is finished, so no discussions and no analysis with your friends.
  • Take a short break and prepare for your next exam.
