Religion in poll campaign

Monday, December 04, 2017

ONE of Rahul Gandhi's important poll schedule is visit to temples. During the last few days, he has visited 8/9 temples. He is busy providing proof to the Gujarat electorate he is a Hindu. Following the 'non Hindu' incident at Somnath temple, the BJP is using the incident to carry out anti-poll attack against him. Gujarat is favourable to Hindu tickets. The BJP has seized the opportunity to use the information Rahul Gandhi is a Catholic. Rahul Gandhi is seen with Hindu priests and sadhus dressed in saffron. Rahul is seen bowing to them. Except wearing saffron, Rahul is all out to show he is a Hindu. A Catholic leader does not have much chance in Gujarat where the population consists mostly of Hindus. There is just about a week more to the polls and Rahul Gandhi can be expected to go on with the objective of proving he is a Hindu. The BJP is taking full advantage of the information.

In a desperate move, the Congress is trying to make out Narendra Modi is a non-Hindu. It may not have any success in this regard. Gujarat is Narendra Modi's birth place. Rahul Gandhi is an outsider. Narendra Modi used to sell tea here. He made a big mark in the state's political field. People are quite familiar with him. They all know he is a Hindu. The BJP has condemned the effort of the Congress to malign Modi.

Thanks to the new non Hindu development, there is likely to be a sharp voter swing towards the BJP and Gujarat might come under Modi's sweep in a big way.
