Punishment for child rape

Monday, April 16, 2018

Union Minister Maneka Gandhi and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti have been shocked by the rapes that have taken place in the country in the last week. The child rape that has taken place in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir must have shocked them. So much so that they have taken a decision to enact a rape law to award death for rape and murder of children below 12. An eight-year-old child was tortured for some days hit with stones and finally strangled. The picture of the girl appeared in all newspapers which shocked the people of the nation. Four men raped her brutally. The rape cases must end soon and death sentence must be awarded fast.

Crimes against the innocent children have not ended. A child of 12 has been brutally gangraped in Surat only a couple of days ago. She was tortured by a gang of men for some days then murdered. The extent of brutality could be seen by the fact that she  sustained 87 injuries on different parts of her body.

The poor child must have undergone hell at their hands. It is clear that the punishment of death alone can help control the maniacs. A few years in jail will not deter them. Death alone can be the right punishment for the monsters.

Those who command such horrible crimes should not have the right to live on this earth. Let us hope there will be no delay in passing the law.
