President Rahul will make no difference in Gujarat

Wednesday, December 06, 2017

FOR years now, power has remained totally with the dynasty. Denied a chance to exercise it, other leaders in the party have come to believe that they are not entitled ever to have it. After Sonia Gandhi, there is only one leader who is entitled to have the top postilion and the right to lead the party. Rahul Gandhi was the natural choice for the president of the party. He is the only one who had the right to be president. No wonder the party elected him before any election.
His becoming the president was a foregone conclusion. The party does have a president but choosing him or her was the work of the dynasty. Sonia Gandhi chose Rahul. And there was a mock election. There was only one nomination; Rahul Gandhi. He was "elected" by the party. He was going to Gujarat campaigning with a new title attached to his name: president. On the eve of the Congress president election, the party has lost  seat in Amethi civic election. Amethi is supposed to be Rahul Gandhi's constituency in UP. And with the loss of the seat, he also lost the civic elections in UP. The Congress only got 16 seats in that election. Actually after Rahul Gandhi has become president of the Congress, his campaigning in Gujarat has weakened.

For the Congress, it will be a total defeat - like it was in the recent Uttar Pradesh election. It will not be a surprise if the Congress gets less than ten seats.
