High road accidents

Monday, February 11, 2019

IN a day in Maharashtra as many as 55 people are critically injured due to accidents. Quite a few of them succumb to the injuries. Would they have died if they had been taken care of? If most part of the time they were walking, going in a vehicle or doing anything else on the road, if they had followed safety rules there would have been no accidents, no deaths. It is because people ignore road rules, that there are accidents. The road they are using must not be on the minds of those who use them. Even as they walk or drive and do anything else on the road, their mind is involved with thoughts of their problems or plans, meaning they are disturbed. That means their mind will be elsewhere and not on the road. If a car driver concentrates on the road, anticipates, and expects, he is likely to have a smooth drive. A careful driver knows at what speed he has to go to ensure safety for one and all. It is really funny that people ignore safety rules.

Road users break rules and go at high speed, much higher than what is allowed. At no time they care to slow down. At break-neck speed, they turn. If this is done, there may be swerving and slipping. Overtaking is done without warning and even while going at top speed. At break-neck speed the vehicle is driven and brakes are applied suddenly. People walk all over the road and cross one another all the time.

And on the road, "anything goes". Drinking, meeting and important talks, handing over of messages. Sudden dashing, criss-crossing exercises take place all the time. Road deaths should be once in a blue moon occurrence. Road control folks cannot do much by themselves. With a little help, those in charge can cut down the horror that is going on our roads.
