Deaths on roads

Saturday, October 06, 2018

IN our country, the fatalities on roads are over 20,000 pedestrians every year. The killer vehicles are two-wheelers, buses, taxis, cars, lorries, bicycles, and many other kind of vehicles. All over the country, we have roads which are not made of good construction materials. This is one of the main reasons for accidents. Road repair is of an inferior quality. Checks are there but most of the time they are bogus. Tainted repairers manage to get contracts again. There are potholes and the two-wheeler drivers go right into them. Potholes cannot be seen and they get involved in major accidents. All work surrounding road reconstruction is of inferior quality. Those in the know manage it all and get in again and gain.

Weather plays havoc with the roads. The standard of road repair is poor and very often a road does not improve even after repair. There are huge attempts at cheating - again and again. Those who are in the "business" of road repair know how to go about it: roads have become a big source of income for thousands of people. In their hands, roads remain in poor condition all the time.

No wonder a large number of people become victims every day.

The authorities appear to think the situation cannot be improved - nothing can be done about it.

It is happening all over the country. Pedestrians are becoming victims thanks to bad roads, bad vehicles and bad drivers.

There is no point in hoping things will improve: they are steadily becoming worse.
