Continuing terror in Kashmir

ONLY elections supported by the leaders in Kashmir can be held in Kashmir. The local body elections were initiated by India and they proved to be a big flop. On the day of the election, there was violence, booth capturing and obstruction of even those few voters who turned up. All prominent leaders had expressed their opposition to holding of the elections.

The leaders want national elections. The Indian government does not want to hold them. Farooq Abdulla was the first who asked India to hold elections. His son Omar Abdulla also of the National Conference wants elections. Then there is the PDP which is asking for elections. The Indian government is finding the situation  in the state far from congenial to hold elections. The government in Delhi is fighting terrorists in Kashmir. They are mostly from Pakistan. Hafiz Sayeed who masterminded the killing of over 250 Indians  finds himself in a position of power.

The terrorists we find in Kashmir must have been sent by Sayeed. Pakistan appears to have found he is most suited to carry on terrorist operations.

India has to fight first - violence and unrest in Kashmir. The army is doing a good job. Thanks to its enhanced action, stone throwing has been dealt with well. It is said that a young man in Kashmir will throw a stone for Rs. 500.

So long as Pakistan continues to carry on terror activities in Kashmir, peace will not come to the state.
