WITH the passing of each day, the sweep of the BJP across the country is growing. The BJP never had it so good. Under the leadership of Narendra Modi, the party is being viewed as secular. The big victory in Uttar pradesh assembly elections showed that the BJP got votes also from Muslims and Dalits.
Mayawati's BSP and Mulayam's SP and the Congress were trounced. The BJP has acquired a new acceptable face. And behind all the changes is Mr. Narendra Modi. A tea seller has become not only the prime minister of India but also a tall leader of the party.
The executive meeting of the party which met at Bubaneshwar last week was in highly celebratory mood. It decided to start preparations for 2019 and also move into states which are ruled by other parties. It wants to take over Odisha, Delhi, Karnataka. It is possible the Modi magic will work. The recent elections in which BJP had major success show the mood of the electorate in the country. The AAP which was nowhere in the recent elections in Delhi must have been shocked by the performance of the BJP.
The BJP leaders however must consider whether the push for "Hindutva" again by leaders like Yogi Adityanath in uttar Pradesh will not eat into its hold on some sections of people who have changed and become BJP supporters. The good work done by Narendra Modi across the country will slowly be wiped out if they continue to carry on with the "Hindutva" agenda.
