Answer to roll call in school - Jai Hind

Friday, January 11, 2019

NOW they have a problem in answering roll call in school classrooms in Gujarat. They want to stop the Anglican way of doing it — Yes Sir. They want to do it the Indian way. They want to teach children the patriotic way of doing it in quite a few schools in Gujarat. An official order is likely to come to all schools in this regard. Instead of saying "Yes Sir", they have to answer the roll call with a prompt "Jai Hind".

Education authorities want to make the students patriotic from the very beginning. It is strange that we have thrown away the foreigners from our backs and yet are following their ways. "Jai Hind" as an answer to the roll call would be a good patriotic thing to do. The enlightened, patriotic elders must show the way.

It is nice to hear the patriotic "Jai Hind" as the school kids indicate to the teacher they are present in the class. Can there be anything more patriotic than the resonance of the two words? And the kids are made to say it every day. That will help them stir the spirit of patriotism every day.

Besides, when the kid answers in the patriotic way, the classroom will reverberate in a patriotic way. When the kid says "Yes Sir" he or she will be answering only the teacher. He or she refers to the entire, holy, patriotic India when he answers with "Jai Hind".

Actually, we should now start listening to the sound of our own patriotic language. "Jai Hind" will help us do that.

A good thing that is noticed is that these days more kids go to schools. Parents are becoming aware of the importance of education. It takes more time to take the roll call in classrooms. Teachers would like to finish it as soon as possible. The answer to the roll call can be shortened. It could just be a clear, loud  Jai Hind. In that case Jai is many times better than Sir.
