Zarine Khan is staying positive

Monday, July 09, 2018

The doughty Zarine Khan, wife of film star Sanjay Khan and mother of grown up kids Farah, Susanne, Simone and Zayed, will celebrate her birthday on July 12. When we asked what makes her happy at this stage of life, Zarine says it is most certainly family. She says that her four children and nine grandkids make her a very happy grandma! “Since we all stay within 10-minute distance of each other, we manage to meet up very often.” We asked the homemaker, on the occasion of her birthday, to look back on her life a little and count the things that she is most grateful for. Said Zarine: “The three things that I am most grateful for are, firstly, that I was born in India, the land of Mahatma Gandhi. Secondly, for meeting my husband, who was my neighbour in Juhu, on the sands of the nearby beach – he was 18 and I was 14. He’s a courageous and righteous man. And third, once again for my large family. They are my wealth and happiness.” Zarine recalls how Sanjay suffered a horrific accident in 1989 on the sets of the serial The Sword of Tipu Sultan which resulted in the director and actor sustaining 65 per cent burns, a life-and-death situation, something which is still fresh in her memory. Sanjay spent 13 months in and out of hospitals and, thankfully, survived. Not just that but ‘Tipu Sultan’ turned out a huge success and was later broadcast in many countries. Zarine says that she looks at life positively: “Basically, I am a happy and content person who likes to see my life as a glass half-full, rather than half-empty. Through the thick and thin of life, I have always held fast to the belief that the difficult times will pass, too.” She adds that she does not associate with negative or pessimistic people and surrounds herself with happiness and loving warmth. Happy birthday and here’s wishing you and family all the good fortune in the world, lady!
