'Unfaithfully Yours' plays again

Friday, June 08, 2018

Television stars Mona Kapoor and Rohit Roy are starring in the play ‘Unfaithfully Yours’ which deals with the subject of marital infidelity but which is really an interesting journey into two lives. Produced and directed by Raell Padamsee, the play is set in a hotel room with the audience eavesdropping on the duo’s conversations which deal with all manner of things that concern them as individuals. We learn about the characters’ families, their hopes and aspirations, disappointments, the things that make them laugh, cry, their growth trajectories… everything in the world except the affair that they’re purportedly having. We asked Raell if it was difficult to get TV stars like Rohit and Mona to do theatre. “Not at all,” she laughs. “I’ve been having a conversation with Rohit for the longest time to take part in theatre and once we found a part for him, he was the one who managed to convince Mona.” It seems, or so Raell tells us, in real life Rohit loves food and the first thing that that the crew had to organise when travelling with the play (and they’ve travelled to Delhi, Hong Kong and Dubai among other destinations for performances) was food for the actor. “Rohit loved his food and Mona was perennially on a diet though being from the Punjabi community she tends to have a natural affinity towards food,” says Raell. What can audiences expect when they come to see the play, we ask. “A pretty high-end production, a slice-of-life evening of theatre,” says Raell. ‘Unfaithfully Yours’, incidentally, is scheduled to be staged this Sunday, 10 June at St Andrews Auditorium, Bandra.
