Shibani Kashyap’s social message

Friday, February 09, 2018

Singer Shibani Kashyap is on a high with her latest single ‘Wanna Be Free’ having crossed 1.4 million views on YouTube. The song features ‘Fukrey’ actress Richa Chadha as the protagonist (Shibani’s husband Rajiv Roda is also playing a part in the video) who is enslaved by her addiction to social media. Says Shibani: “The song has a message — which is that it’s so important not to be addicted to the social media, as many of us are nowadays. The part of the video towards the end shows that the choice is ours. Outdoor activities like going for a walk or jog as well as spending time with one’s family are very important. Instead we are often glued to our mobile phones and computers and when men come to the dining table, they often have one hand on their mobile phones and the other on the crockery.”

Here’s one singer who has managed to reinvent herself with a new style of singing and one who also believes that reinvention is vital for an artiste. “Reinvention is like wearing a new garb, a new set of clothes. It leads to a new you. Singer Madonna does it every time and that too with such aplomb that I think she’s a case study for all artistes,” she says. So, here’s a shout out for evergreen artistes like the two of them.
