Reena Datta's artistic passion

Wednesday, February 14, 2018

Artist Reena Datta (who happens to be actor Aamir Khan’s ex-wife and mother of his children Junaid and Ira) will be part of a group of artists exhibiting their paintings at the Dolna Art Gallery, Nehru Centre, Worli, from the February 15-18th. Reena tells us that painting was one of the things she always wanted to do (besides learning to play the guitar and the racquetball game squash). She grew fascinated with watercolours after she picked up a book by a Pune-based artist and tutored with him for many years, travelling to Pune every weekend to attend classes. What she enjoys most about painting is this: “It’s the process that is most exciting. Painting transports you to another world, one in which nothing else matters. It’s an amazing experience.” And as for the aftermath of painting, she adds, “I’ve noticed that one begins seeing the world differently after one paints. One sees colours differently, sees lights differently. One actually begins to look around and see things, which is a rarity in a city like Mumbai where people mostly look at their mobile phones!” Incidentally Reena has been painting since 2012 but has exhibited, so far, mainly for family and friends. This is among her first public art shows.
