Monsoon deluge expected

Friday, June 08, 2018

Even as it rained quite heavily on Thursday in several parts of Mumbai, the proper city monsoon is actually expected to set in within a day or so and to bring with it a severe deluge. Several meteorological agencies, including Skymet Weather, have warned that the next two-three days will see especially heavy thundershowers that may cause waterlogging and flooding all over the city. So, dear reader, if you do indeed have the option, take precautions by staying indoors as much as possible -- for the next few days at least. And in case you live on the ground floor of a building or in a waterlogging-prone zone, then make sure that the drains around your area are not clogged and that you have the option to shift your valuables and important documents to a safer place as a temporary measure. Make a list of important BMC numbers that you can contact in an emergency and keep your friends and relatives also alerted. And if, in the eventuality that flooding does take place, you can reach out and help someone in need, then all the better for you. Of course, if we’re lucky, none of this will be required should the rain gods decide to be merciful to this city and land!
