Meghna Ghai Puri's Amitabh moments

Monday, May 14, 2018

There’s a ‘Frame 75’ exhibition currently ongoing at Meghna Ghai Puri’s Whistling Woods film institute in the Film City complex. Dedicated to filmstar Amitabh Bachchan’s reaching the age of 75, it consists of rare photographs, paintings, sketches, posters, block print art, vinyl IP covers, lobby cards and hand bills related to the superstar put together in 75 frames. Created by photojournalist Pradeep Chandra and eminent film historian SMM Ausaja, it was inaugurated last week at the St Regis hotel by Amitabh himself but has now moved to the Whistling Woods campus in Goregaon (East) where it will be open to the public (without any entry fee) till May 25. Meghna says she wants to encourage interaction between people and the democratic medium of film through such initiatives. Apparently while speaking to her and to her dad Subhash Ghai at the interaction, Amitabh urged Meghna to showcase other well-known artistes from the film industry as well since, as he said, there exist many legendary talents in Bollywood. “I will be happy to do that in the future, even though currently we do a lot of film-related documentation for the purposes of educating our institute students,” says Meghna. What was the highlight of the exhibition for her? “It was seeing that Mr Bachchan’s expression while he was viewing the exhibition -- he didn’t remember many of the frames, some of which were shot during extremely candid moments. His look of surprise while looking at the frames was priceless,” laughs Meghna. She tells us that ‘Frame 75’ will travel outstation after May 25 and will revisit Whistling Woods again in September.
