Mahashivratri approaches

Monday, February 12, 2018

If you ask most spiritual teachers (and we have) the significance of the Hindu festival of Mahashivratri which means the Great Night of Lord Shiva, they should tell you that it is an evening when the energies on earth and the universe surrounding it are best for individual meditation and deep insights. And yet it is a night that is also largely celebrated with the gathering of many spiritual seekers, singing songs, celebrating the celestial forces of the universe. The Art of Living started its celebrations in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, has one planned at the Mulund Temple of Knowledge today and tomorrow, on Shivratri day, has two celebrations at separate venues in Bandra (W) and Goregaon (E). The Brahmakumaris have their own commemoration in different zones of the city which includes a flag-hoisting in the morning and an evening programme that, in Ghatkopar, starts at 5pm. And Sadhguru’s Isha movement has an all-night programme in Coimbatore with performances by Sonu Nigam and Daler Mehndi which will be webstreamed live on the community website, Yet, for those who aren’t in the mood for spirituality, there’s always the option of spending quality time with the family or friends – and, of course, partying!
