'Elvis' musical to rock n roll city soon

Friday, July 06, 2018

There’s a new musical show that’s scheduled to hit town on 14 July and it’s called ‘Elvis – Long Live the King’. The musical, which is based on the life of evergreen American singer Elvis Presley, tells the life story of the mesmerising songster through the songs he sang – from Love Me Tender to Blue Suede Shoes to (Ain’t Nothin’ but a) Hound Dog.  Produced by Raell Padamsee’s Ace Productions, it will star Siddharth Meghani as the King of Rock n Roll, Elvis himself. Says Raell: “To say that everyone loves Elvis is an understatement. We always wanted to do our own Elvis tribute show and so came up with this play.” Raell says that Siddharth is the perfect choice to enact Elvis because Meghani has a voice “that is like butter”. She adds: “When I took Siddharth to Bengaluru to participate in our ‘Broadway & Beyond’ show the women were swooning…they thought he was lip synching (when actually he was singing live). He is the best Elvis that India has to offer”. Raell says that audiences can look forward to a six-member band on stage to accompany Siddharth’s live performance as well as a Las Vegas-style show with dancers and singers who will thrill with their rock n roll moves. Not to mention LED wall visuals and stage effects which will transport them to another world (well almost!). The show, which is directed by Karla Singh and choreographed by Chirag Agarwal, will debut at the Tata Theatre, NCPA on theSaturday after next. So, don’t be Lonesome Tonight, go listen to some Burning Love!
