Another Shetty in Bollywood!

Monday, February 12, 2018

Everyone, we presume, has heard of actress Shilpa Shetty, but let us introduce you to another Shetty — someone who has been around in Bollywood for the last 12 years as a singer, music director and screenwriter. Suhaas Shetty, once part of the well-known band ‘Vedic Chants’, is known as the Sini Ne Sini Ne singer, which song was picturised on actor Emraan Hashmi in the film ‘Jawani Diwani’ (2006). Shetty was also one of the singers in the well-known Dum Laga song from the film ‘Dil Dosti Etc’ (2007), which has become a sort of anthem for the youth in North India, we hear. As a music director, Suhaas forms one half of the Sid-Suhaas duo which has composed music for such films as Prakash Jha production, ‘Crazy Cukkad Family’ (2015), ‘Turning 30’ (2011), which starred Gul Panag and Purab Kohli, as well as many other films.  This publicity-shy musician went to St Stanislaus school where he befriended his music director partner Siddharth and they have been friends and associates for the last 34-or-so years. Suhaas has also recently been live-hosting the #BigMic event for music artistes at Gostana restaurant in Khar. Says Shetty, “The main reason I got into Bollywood was that around that time, the industry was opening up to a whole range of musical sounds and styles.” So then, will he be (to quote actor Paul Newman) ‘the right person in the right place at the right time’? Only time will tell!
