It was indeed a memorable  socio-cultural evening event convened by docu-film director Rajni Acharya to flag off the 92nd birth (24th Dec) anniversary ‘week’  of the legendary singer Moh’d Rafi with an informal cake-cutting ceremony. Where the select invitees were treated to a brief concert compered by the exuberant Arpita Vora  which included  a variety of live songs all from Rafi-saab’s rich repertoire sung by Bharat Kapadia, Sandip Jarkar and Manisha Mathur-Jethwani.

Their amazing singing was simply soul-stirring. Yet another surprise twist was the ‘live’ rendering of her own track ‘Mujhe Tum Yaad Aaye’ by noted veteran playback singer Usha Timothy who had the ‘privilege’ of  performing numerous times with Rafi-saab during his life-time. Also present was erudite entrepreneur author Sujata Dev, on whose  in-depth research and interviews in her official biography book on Mohd Rafi,   the award-winning bio-docu film ‘Dastaan-E-Rafi’ directed by Rajni Acharya and Vinay Patel is based. The concert was followed by the screening of the award-winning bio-docu-feature on Rafi-saab. Which is not only  emotionally enlightening but also has eloquent tributes from  a galaxy of celebs including actors Shammi Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Manoj Kumar, composers Anandji and Pyarelal, singers Amit Kumar, Pandit Jasraj, Sonu Nigam and of course the iconic singer’s family members.
