Shree Pavitra Arts Academy presented Kavyam, a dance ballet in Bharata natyam and Kathak dance styles, featuring the immortal love story of Radha and Krishna at the ISKCON auditorium, organised by Bhakti Kala Kshetra. Besides the dance and the philosophy of reaching out to the supreme, it was interesting to watch as to how two different classical dance styles merged together.

Shree Pavitra Arts Academy (Bandra), is headed by accomplished Bharata Natyam exponent, Guru Nandinee Ashok. Over the years, the academy has trained several aspirants in the field of Bhrata Natyam and produced thematic ballets too. Solely established with the intention of promotion and propagation of Indian arts, particularly Indian classical music and dance.

The concept and choreography of Kavyam is by Nandhinee Ashok who appears as Radha and the role of Krishna was enacted by Kathak exponent Harshada Jambekar. Pertaining to the larger spectrum of the life of Krishna, the ballet portrays the immortal love of Radha and Krishna that symbolises the human soul "Jeevatma" and the divine soul "Parmatma". With melodious music and colourful costumes, the ballet reaches its pinnacle with the Maharaas wherein Krishna dances with the Gopis and each Gopi feels that Krishna is dancing with her.

THe highlight of the performance was when all the dancers join together in dancing the Raas Garba with small sticks in their hands to maintain perfect rhythm with music, dance and movements. As the rope unwinds the dancers move in clock wise and then anti-clocks to unite the rope again. This dance has a philosophical touch to it as man is tied to varied bondages but released from all bondages when he attains moksham. THe dancers included Avani Shah, Devika Rajgor, Aanchal Lutharia, Priya Kavlan, Sanika Purohit, Radhika Joshi and Dhwani Shah. On the whole an interesting presentation.
