On the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of Upaasana Academy of Fine Arts, a programme of Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam was presented at the SNDT Woman’s college auditorium in Ghatkopar. It was exciting for the children and the senior students of Upasaana to perform on this unique occasion.

Upaasana Academy is headed by accomplished Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam exponent Guru Jayashree Nair. Over the years Upaasana has trained several aspirants in the field of classical dance and music and many of them have become professionals too.

The performance commenced with invocatory numbers in the Bharatanatyam style performed with lot of involvement and sincerity, although some of them were nervous and there were male students as well that would attract the attention of the audience.

The Mohiniyattam performance by the senior dancers received applause from the audience, starting with the traditional invocatory number known as Cholkettu in praise of the goddess. The Marathi composition Rusli Radha Rusla Madhava was well enacted by Sujata and daughter Sharanya who played Radha with natural expressions that created a lasting impression on the audience, establishing an inter-relationship between Radha and Krishna as to how they pacify each other after drifting away. The Navarasa number was the piece-de-resistance of the evening as it established varied emotions pertaining to the life of Lord Shiva.

The dancers of the evening were Aadhya, Adwita, Ananya, Anushree, Anvi, Bhagyalkshmi, Dhanalakshmi, Janvi, Jhassicha,, Kiara, Lasya, Leena, Nikshita, Padmaja, Pratibha, Pritam, Promodhini, Rekha, Rekha S, Riddhi, Sanvi, Sarah, Sarita, Seema, Sharanya, Sharika, Shashank, Sheeta, Shrushti, Sujata, Vedant, and Yashika.
