Kalasadan Cultural Society in association with INT Aditya Birla Centre, as part of the mini-concert series, presented two talented dancers performing Manipuri and Kathak at their auditorium in Chowpatty. It was interesting to see as to how both the dancers performed with a lot of devotion and enthusiasm.

The initiative of Kalasadan, in collaboration with Aditya Birla Centre, is looking to encourage and promote young artists, as platforms are rare and there are several young dancers waiting anxiously to perform. This bi-monthly concert series will feature performers in varied disciplines.

Anusuya Roy is the disciple of renowned Manipuri exponents Darshana Jhaveri and Latasana Devi. She is a charming and talented danseuse – her interpretation of Krishna's prank of stealing butter in the absence of mother Yasoda is rather pleasing. In the 'ashtpadi' depicting 'Khantita nayika', Radha is angry with Krishna as he arrives early in the morning after spending the night elsewhere, the tell-tale marks upset Radha and she asks him to go away. The expressions were subtle. Anusuya concluded with a pure dance number that was similar to the 'Tarana' with intricate rhythmic patterns. If Anusuya continues to dance with the same amount of passion and zeal, she can aspire to be among the front rank of dancers.

Sarita Kalele is the disciple of accomplished Kathak exponent Uma Dogra. her brief and sparkling performance revealed her sincere involvement in the dance format. Sarita commenced with the beautiful Adi Shankaracharya composition "Namah Shivaya" that vividly described the glory and the typical characteristics of the Lord of dance "Nataraja". Sarita's charming smile and her lively quality of her performance, dancing to precise 'teen taal' left a lasting impression on the audience. Sarita will definitely scale great heights as a dancer. On the whole it was an evening of delight to watch two distinct classical dances in the same platform.
