What happens when an ace Odissi dancer-choreographer of the caliber of Dona Ganguly teams up with a noted tabla exponent like Prodyut Mukherjee on stage? Well it creates a jugalbandi that holds audiences spellbound. The Kalamandir audience witnessed the thrill recently in their second joint collaboration. Dona Ganguly, who is the wife of former India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, and Prodyut Mukherjee, regaled the audience at Kala Mandir. We have witnessed the great Birju Maharaj, the 'Emperor' of the Kathak form, interacting with maestros like Kishen Maharaj, Samta Prasad, Zakir Hussian and Kumar Bose. It is rare for an Odissi exponent to engage in an interaction with a tabla artiste. From this viewpoint, the Dona Ganguly/Prodyut Mukherjee encounter was unique. Prodyut has also teamed up with Vishwamohan Bhatt, the Grammy winner maestro. The duo had won the GIMA Award for their MOODS album in 2016. The added attraction in Moods Season now is choreography by the noted Odissi Guru Dona Ganguly. The entire concept and design of this presentation was made by Percussion Maestro Prodyut Mukherjee. The melody was designed by VishwaMohan Bhatt. While Dona's dance represented the pure guru Kelucharan Mahapatra style , the performance of GIMA Award Winner Tabla wizard Pandit Prodyut Mukherjee took the performance to a different height.

'Kalabharati', the cultural wing of Karnataka Sangha, presented classical singer Maitreyee Dadarkar. Maitreyee is a product of the ITC/SRA in gurukul Calcutta. She has trained under Arun Bhadudi of the Kirana gharana. At present she is also training under the popular singer Ashwini Bhide. Maitreyee sang the raga 'Shudh Sarang'. Her bada khyal was developed in a leisurely manner. Maitreyee sings in a rounded and full voice and her sense of melody is firm and unwavering. Her taan patterns too had an admirable fluency. She also sang a composition in 'Bhairavi'. Abhay Datar on the tabla and Dnyaneshwar Sonavane on the harmonium lent superb support.
