The ‘Khayal Trust' had organised a novel programme titled 'Malhar Mala' at the lovely little Madame Cama Hall at Shivaji Park. It featured veteran musician Dr Prakash Sangeet and his son and pupil Dr Chaitanya. Both the singers co-presented various types of the raga 'Malhar' in about two hours. They had chosen the jugalbandi format and it worked very well as a concert concept.

One has heard Dr Prakash presenting various types of the raga 'Malhar' in Sangeet Sarita slot which is very popular among radio listeners. It is broadcast everyday at 7.30 am on 'Vividh Bharati'. This programme not only presented diiferent types of Malhar but also chose different musical forms as the vehicle for these types. For instance the Dhrupad form was chosen for 'Shudh Malhar' which is deceptively similar to the more familiar raga 'Durga'.

The Khyal form was chosen for the raga 'Ramdasi Malhar' which uses ‘botht eh shuddha’ as well as komal gandhar. Forms like 'Chaturang' or 'Tappa' are rarely heard on the concert platform these days because there are very few capable singers. Dr Sangeet had selectedvragas l like the 'Gaud Malhar' and 'Des Malhar' for demonstrating them. It was very appealing to hardcore as well as novice listeners.

While Dr Prakash is often heard on the AIR as well as other channels, Dr Chaitanya is rarely seen on the concert platform. He is very  talented and a very competent singer. His model seems to be the numero uno singer Rashid Khan. Nevertheless, he did make a good impression with the quality of his voice as well as his musicianship.

Kanchan Sangeet compered the show with grace, while Prakash Chitnis on the harmonium and Ramdas Mhatre on the tabla offered good support.
