Geeta Nritya Vidyalaya presented their 33rd annual day program at the Kalidas Natya Mandir (Mulund). It was quite an exciting occasion for the students and parents as many children were dancing for the first time on a public platform. Children in varied age groups and youth performed with lot of enthusiasmand sincerity.

Geeta Nritya Vidyalaya was established in 1981 to promote and propagate Indian classical dances and classical music through the medium of performances and by teaching the divine art forms to young aspirants. Over the years, Geeta Nritya Vidyalaya has trained several aspirants, some of them have become professionals as teachers and performers. This dance academy has been established by accomplished Bharatanatyam exponent Girija Nair, who has had the privilege of performing at various prestigious festivals, both in India and abroad.

The theme for the program was the story of Goddesses, enacted through various episodes pertaining toDeviMahatmayam. The little children performed some traditional Bharatanatyam numbers concerning both pure and expressional dancing. It was interesting to note as to how, although some students were nervous, they still tried to do their best.

The highlight of the program was the ballet on Goddess Mookambika, who fights the evil demon Kamasura to restore peace and happiness among peace. The role of the goddess, enacted by Girija Nair with involvement and the students was pleasing. The program concluded with the popular verse in praise of the Goddess 'Ayi Giri Nandini', as the goddess who is known for her benevolent and virile qualities. All in all it was a fine attempt by the students.
