Pancha Tatva Festival

Kalashram and Bhavans Cultural Centre presented the 12th Edition of ‘Panch Tatva Festival’,  curated by Kathak exponent Guru Renu Sharma . Scintillating Kathak performances by renowned and upcoming Kathak dancers were held at SPCE  Sabhagruh. Since 2007, the multifaceted PANCH-TATVA — Annual Kathak Festival has been a visual & intellectual treat for connoisseurs of Indian culture.

 This year at Panch-Tatva, Kathak Legend Pundit Birju Maharaj's 80th birth year was celebrated in a festive atmosphere. On this occasion,  an audio ‘CD ANTARANG — Man Ki Lehrein’ — unique musical tribute was offered to the maestro featuring more than 50 artists from all over the world who contributed through their music. This limited edition CD has been produced by ALPIKA, Cultural & Literary organisation (Founder President Uma Trigunayat & Secretary Renu Sharma), in association with NataRavi, a Mumbai-based art entrepreneurship company helmed by Sunil Sunkara. Punditt Birju Maharaj who publicly released the CD, was touched by the gesture that all donation collected through distribution of the CD will be given to the Kalashram Gurukul at New Delhi.

Yash Bharati Awardees Professor Kamla Srivastava and Padma Gidwani represent the traditional Awadhi style through folk and hori, while Mumbai’s ace sitarist Alka Gujar and Bahrain’s Carnatic stalwart Indu Suresh presents a unique Carnatic-Hindustani blend in Raag Revathy-Bairagi, accompanied by Paullumi Mukheerjee on Kavitt Padhant, Sai Prashant Harihar, a young Hyboardist from Chennai and Anirudh Sharma, a tabla prodigy from Hyderabad. Ramya Kapadia, singer and Bharatnatyam exponent features in a beautiful ghazal composed by Rajiv Sundaresan, whereas popular sports commentator Charu Sharma lent his voice to Urdu Shayari.

The dynamic duo Manas Vishwaroop from Mumbai and Kartik Raman from Bangalore feature in an exhilarating composition on Shiva. Kartik’s solo ‘Beeta Shishir Basant Hai aaya’ is a traditional basant description with a modern feel.

One of the senior most Kathak exponents of the city, Keka Sinha performed along with a disciple of hers. Her brief and intricate performance kept the audience spell bound. Her performance was noteworthy for its technical and divine quality. Vishal Krishna who is a brilliant Kathak performer from the Benaras Gharana, initiated by Pandit Sukhdev Maharaj and Kathak queen Sitara Devi. Vishal created a lasting spell with his expertise on footwrok and precise performance. Besides the students who learnt from Pt Birju Maharaj in the intensive workshop, Sunil Sunkara presented the expressional number on Lord Krishna, penned by Shruti Vaidya "Tatkaar Se Subeh Jisske, Gatbhav Jisski Shyam Hai, Pancha tatva Ko Shunya ko baje, Birjmoham Jisska Naam Hai" that explores the multi-facets of both nature and divinity.
