Maharashtra Lalit Kala Nidhi, in association with Yashwant Rao Chavan Pratisthan organised "Nritya Mahotsav" featuring three distinct classical dance styles at YB Chavan Centre auditorium near Mantralaya recently.

The accomplished dancers who were featured in this festival were Kshitija Barwe for Bharata Natyam, Rujuta Soman for Kathak and Shubhada Varadkar for Odissi. The programme commenced with the striking and pleasing Bharata Natyam performance by Kolhapur based danseuse Kshitija. Kshitija is a product of Nalanda Nritya Kala Mahavidyalaya and her performance was noteworthy for the command over expressional dancing and precise execution of rythmic patterns.

Pune based Rujutha Soman is an ardent disciple of the veteran Kathak exponent late Rohini Bhate. Unlike most Kathak dancers it was encouraging to note that Rujutha has developed her own style which is quite pleasing and flamboyant in the technique of execution and structural display of the dance form. The "piece- de- resistance" of the evening was the enaction of "Daksha Yagna" with powerful expressions. Rujutha concluded with an interesting rendering of Kishori Amonkar's, "Barsat Ghar Aayo".

Shubhada Varadkar impressed the audience with the dramatic display of Ramayana, an extract from Tulsidas's Shri Ram Charitra Manas, the "Angika Abhinaya" coupled with suitable and enthralling music gave a rare insight and display of the life of Lord Rama. On the whole it was a rare pleasure to witness three distinct classical dance styles in one platform.
